Students “Paint” Own Experience

Students “Paint” Own Experience

Entrepreneurship Program allows Students to “paint” own experience.
Student Painters, an organization that helps college students raise money for school and learn business skills, is booking appointments in Overland Park, KS and surrounding areas. In association with Young Entrepreneurs Across America, Student Painters trains motivated college students how to be successful entrepreneurs.
Bryan Gum, a sophomore at Kansas State University and an Olathe East High School graduate, is the Branch Manager of the Overland Park area. He will hire about half a dozen employees consisting of other college students in the area who will begin Exterior Painting jobs the third week in May and work through August. He has a goal of around 15 jobs and $25,000 in sales sold by May 1. Bryan is well on his way; his time is consumed with marketing his company and performing estimates for customers.
Bryan Gum was hired back in December after many strenuous interviews and beating out many other applicants. Since being hired, Bryan has been working on many recruiting and marketing papers to make sure he is fully prepared and ready to run his own company this summer. Student Painter managers undergo training in the spring and must pass several exams before being allowed in the field. After many months of training and long days, Bryan is finally ready to run a $50,000 to $60,000 company this summer, and he’s still only in college!
The company, Student Painters, has been in business since 1987. Student Painters evolved as the need for summer jobs geared towards business students grew – specializing in the business of teaching, coaching, and supporting college students in running their own successful small business. “It offers a great learning experience because I will gain real world experience that I cannot receive in a classroom environment at K-State,” says Bryan. “The company provides me with all the necessary resources I need, and then turns me into a business owner.”
Bryan will be working full time this summer, making sure every one of his customers are 100% satisfied with every job his business performs. And he doesn’t mind giving up his weekends either to get his business up and running. “I don’t see it as giving up time but more as getting ahead of everyone else this summer. Giving up 12 weekends of summer is a lot, but the experience and rewards I receive this summer will be well worth it.”
All painters are Sherwin Williams certified, so Bryan insists each job is done to the customer’s complete satisfaction. Each job Student Painters does carries a one-year guarantee on quality (two years with two coats), and the company carries a $1 million liability insurance and full workers’ compensation of its employees.
The company is happy to give anyone interested in exterior painting needs a FREE estimate. Appointments can be made by contacting Bryan Gum at:
